Clamping Mechanism Replacement

When a customer found their clamping unit for their Upender Inverter had suffered heavy structural damage by operator error, they were sure the only solution was purchasing an entirely new Upender Inverter and replacing the old one. The logistics of removing and replacing an entire Upender Inverter seemed like an excess of cost, transportation and man-hours. Re-sellers Love Our Flexibility

One of my re-sellers came to me with a request for a custom product to accept sheets of various sizes & weights to be flipped & rolled out of an Upender Inverter for further processing. Half way through the project, it was requested that we accommodate a larger sheet size. ATI worked with this reseller and our supplier to accommodate for this last minute request.

Before accepting the order, we interview our customers to match up the application with the best solution. Nevertheless, ATI takes these unexpected changes in stride. It’s all part of providing our customers with material handling solutions that can range from scissor lifts, mobile & fixed cranes and inverters and countless other possibilities.

Roll Upending and Palletizing

A customer who manufactures rolls of paper was looking for a solution to palletize these rolls when they came off the winding machine. The rolls would hit a j-table that would lower them to the floor. The rolls weigh up to 4,000 lbs and need to be put on a pallet with the eye facing to the sky. The customer didn’t have room or budget to construct a pit and needed a way to roll these on at ground level. The Zero-Low Upender Positioner was the best solution. However, the customer wanted to load it on the retaining plate side because it lays flat on the ground. We devised a solution that would remove the gusset support and design it to be reinforced from underneath the platform. They would then roll onto the platform that would have a slight taper to lead and then nestle the roll to keep it from rolling off the other side. They would then place a pallet behind the rolls and tilt it 90 degrees. Finally, they could remove it with a forklift or pallet jack and take it to packaging and then ship it. This solution improved the efficiency and ergonomics of the operation while maintaining a high level of safety for their operators.

Company looks to ATI to help solve safety issue

A major supplier of high-quality, engineered, heavy metal components who is committed to providing a safe working environment for its employees needed help finding a safe way to flip 60,000 pound cylinders and other very heavy products. They knew exactly where to go to find this help.

Air Technical Industries supplied this same customer with a 20,000 pound Upender Inverter earlier last year with powered conveyors to feed products and powered conveyors inside the Upender Inverter. The whole system was fully automated. One of the reasons this company decided to work with ATI again was their commitment to going above and beyond to get the job done. ATI’s units are over-engineered to handle the rugged, everyday applications of their customers. But, in this case there were some problems with the bearing flanges breaking at the entry side of the Upender Inverter conveyors. Even though ATI did not make these conveyors or bearings, they replaced them with their own design of a more robust bearing. The unit has worked ever since.

Thanks to this outstanding customer service and willingness to get the job done, this same customer has the confidence to have Air Technical Industries help with another large project where safety is of the utmost importance. ATI will once again supply a highly modified Upender Inverter to solve another customer’s challenge.

Manufacturer Looks for Safe and Cost-Effective Pallet Inverter

They were in need to find a safer and more efficient way to flip large wheels. These wheels can weigh in excess of 7,500 pounds. They found a used piece of ATI equipment from a machinery dealer that would do exactly what they were looking for. The piece was sold as a 10,000 pound upender inverter. ATI’s part# UI-104872E. However, after getting the unit delivered and consulting with ATI, it was determined the unit they bought was only a 4,000 pound model.

 

This company needed 2 of these units. All along they knew they would need to buy a new piece from Air Technical Industries. But, what they did not plan on was needing to buy 2 new units. After some discussion ATI found a cost effective solution to make the used unit they bought a 8,000 pound upender inverter. Air Technical Industries built a replacement clamping unit (scissors lift table) that was 8,000 pounds and suggested some other upgrades they could do to transform what they bought.

 

In the end, the customer was very happy that they were able to save some money and get 2 working upender inverters, one for each of their two plants. Not only were they happy to find a safer and more efficient way to run their application. They were also happy to find a company that was willing to find a cost effective solution to they problem they had. Most companies would have just wanted to sell 2 new units. Upend Large Containers 90° with Ease

A customer that specializes in making containers was looking for a safe way to upend containers that were laying on their side 90° to the vertical position. These containers when stacked all together would weigh upwards of 2,000 lbs. The customer wanted to be able to load them at floor level. The best solution for them was the Zero Low Upender/Positioner. When the containers were stacked up they would be as tall as 72” . We were able to build up the retaining plate to 72” as well as the platform so that when they were upended they were safely supported. This makes easy work of palletizing/depalletizing large items safely and quickly. Even large rolls or coils can be upended safely by adding a v-shaped or circular cradle to one side of the positioner.

Customer finds safety answer and much more with Air Technical Industries crate positioner.

Company was looking for a safer way to help their employees. Currently they were having to bend and reach into crates to remove small parts for the final stage of their process before the parts were to be shipped out. ATI pointed them into the direction of their crate positioners.

After coming up with the correct size and ideal height of the crate positioner this customer now sees an increase in both production and efficiency. While decreasing and almost eliminating worker injury. The crate positioner tilts their product to a easy to pick location for initial stage. While another identical crate positioner moving in the opposite direction allows them to package the empty crate before shipping.

The crate positioner has various table top configurations available. Standard table used to reposition boxes, crates, parts, and other containers v-shaped or round top used for upending. Roll/Coil Handling Triples Output

I was working with a customer who was needing to handle rolls of plastic & upend them 90 degrees. The individual rolls were about 20” in diameter weighing about 2,000 lbs when stacked and were facing in the horizontal orientation. The customer wanted to load multiple skids at a time. We were able to modify our crate positioner upender to do just that. We made the platform wider to fit all 3 pallets and also put a v shaped retaining plate on it to help retain the load while upending. This solution would help increase productivity considerably as they were only able to do one at a time with an over head crane. The upender is hydraulically operated electrically powered and can also be powered by air.

Customer finds ATI’s Zero-Low Crate Positioner to be ergonomic answer

This customer was looking for a safer more ergonomic way to both remove and insert parts into a container with fork-pockets on the bottom. For a long time they were just bending over and over throughout the day to get their work done. As of late they have had a couple of strains and pulled muscles.

They did not have much money in their budget and turned to Air Technical Industries to help find a solution. After running through a few options it was determined that an inexpensive solution could solve their dilemma. Keeping the cost down ATI recommended a standard product the Zero-Low Crate Positioner.

The Zero-Low Crate Positioner has capacities up to 4000 pounds (standard models), up to 60 degree tilt and can raise crate to different working heights. The retaining plate is adjustable to different heights as well; when table is tilted up to 60 degrees, the load is at the proper level for easy access by the user.

Serves as an economical “lift” table. Designed to lift loads up to 36 inches high without a more costly scissor lift mechanism attached. Lowers to zero ground level for easy loading and unloading with a two wheel dolly or pallet truck.

In the end the workers became more efficient and less prone to injury. Even though they were looking for an economical solution they paid for their purchase of the Zero-Low Crate Positioner in the first month after delivery. That is a great ROI.

Pallet Inverters Improve Ergonomics

Assembly workers at an automaker are suffering from repetitive motion injuries in their wrist and forearms by constantly having to flip each assembly 180 degrees before being able to perform their function and let the part move on. For the purposes of shipping a company receives products in an upright position. The solution is the ATI pallet inverter. The ATI pallet inverter has clamping plates that travel parallel and uniform on a rugged track to keep the load secure, this clamping style allows the unit to be loaded and unloaded from the front side. By use of the pallet inverter repetitive motion injuries by assembly employees flipping the part can be eliminated.
